Attractions in Xi'an

Terra Cotta Warriors and Horses – Life size terra cotta figures of warriors and horses arranged in battle formations symbolically guard the Mausoleum of Emperor Qin Shi Huang, the first emperor of Qin dynasty (246-209 B.C.). The State Council authorized the building of a museum on the site of 1975 for the protection of the discovery. So far, over 7,000 pottery soldiers, horses, chariots, and even weapons had been unearthed and displayed in the museum. It is cited as the “Eighth Wonder of the World” and was listed by UNESCO in 1987 as one of the world cultural heritages.

Ban Po Village – Covering an area of about 100,000 square meters, the Banpo Village Remains was a village settlement of the earliest inhabitants of Xi’an, typical of the Neolithic Yangshao culture. At this site, archaeologists have discovered nearly 10,000 production tools and daily utensils of various kinds and the remains of 54 houses, 200 cellars, 6 pottery kilns, 174 adult burial pits and 73 children burial jars.

Bell Tower and Drum Tower – The bell was sounded at dawn and the drum at dusk. The two buildings at Xi'an are famous heritages in China. The Bell Tower was built in the city center, tourists can enjoy the panoramic view of Xi’an City from the top. The Drum Tower is located towards the west of the Bell Tower. A large drum inside was for making the message of time each night in ancient times.

Big Wild Goose Pagoda – Big Wild Goose Pagoda is a Buddhist pagoda located in southern Xi'an, Shaanxi province, China. It was built in 652 during the Tang dynasty and originally had five stories. The structure was rebuilt in 704 during the reign of Empress Wu Zetian, and its exterior brick facade was renovated during the Ming dynasty. One of the pagoda's funtions was to hold sutras and figurines of the Buddha that were brought to China from India by the Buddhist translator and traveler Xuanzang.

The Opera of Everlasting Regret – This opera depicts the legendary love story between Emperor Tang Ming Huang and his concubine Yang.  The story consists of four parts, performed by over 300 professional actors.  The natural scene of Mount Li and Huaqing Hot Spring are the stage and backdrop.  It is an epic Tang Dynasty story, from prosperity to decline.

City Wall of Ming – Xi 'an city wall was first founded in AD 582.  In the Hongwu years of the Ming Dynasty, master renovation and reconstruction took place which formed the main body of the current existing city wall.  The entire project of Xi 'an city wall is 13.74 km (8.5 miles) and consists of complex defense facilities: moats, suspension bridges, sluice floors and embrasure watchtowers.  As China's largest and most complete existing ancient city wall construction, Xi 'an city wall has been continuing the historical context of the ancient capital of Chang’an.
